UPDATED: 3 appliances from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are attending a fire at a farm house in Cranmore near Yarmouth this lunchtime (Monday).
Crews from Newport and Freshwater are on scene at Cranmore Avenue, where a chimney fire is understood to have spread to the roof space of a farm house property.
The alarm was raised shortly before 10:45 with 1 appliance from Newport initially mobilised, but the assistance of 10 more firefighters has been called upon due to the spread of the fire.
Firefighters are using breathing apparatus and a number of hose reels to tackle the incident.
UPDATE @ 12:08 – An appliance from East Cowes has now been mobilised to the scene, taking the total number of pumps to 4. The Incident Command Unit is also en-route to Cranmore Farm House.
2 fire officers are already in attendance.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that the fire has spread to a 1st floor bedroom.
UPDATE @ 13:16 – The British Red Cross Fire and Emergency Support vehicle has been deployed to the incident this afternoon to assist the homeowners.
Fire crews continue to work to extinguish the fire and prevent it spreading to anymore of the property.
UPDATE @ 13:42 – Firefighters have used COBRA, breathing apparatus, hose reel jets and chimney gear to contain and extinguish the fire.
Crews remain on scene damping down and making up.
Just 2 appliances now remain on scene.
