Emergency crews have rushed to the scene of a 2-car road traffic collision in a quiet residential area of Binstead this lunchtime (Thursday).
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have mobilised 2 appliances from Ryde to the junction of Trafalgar Drive and Wellington Road, where at least 1 person is trapped inside their vehicle.
Crews were alerted to the collision between a Suzuki Wagon R and a Vauxhall Zafira at just gone 13:00.
Police have closed the road in both directions whilst paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service tend to those involved.
The male driver and female passenger of the Zafira have escaped injury with minor damage to their vehicle. However, the husband and wife duo in the Suzuki have been immobilised and are being extricated from the car.
Southern Vectis has tweeted to say that Route 37 services will be diverting via Binstead Lodge Road and will be unable to serve stops between Pellview Road and Ryde Academy as the incident is dealt with.
UPDATE @ 13:33 – Fire crews are working to remove the roof of the Suzuki to enable the safe extrication of a female driver and her male passenger.
Island Echo understands the married couple had only travelled 50 metres from their home when the crash occurred. Witnesses say they were travelling at slow speed and on the correct side of the road.
2 ambulance crews are now on scene and will convey the 2 casualties directly to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport.
UPDATE @ 14:05 – Both casualties have been extricated and are on their way to hospital.
They are not thought to have sustained any serious injuries but every precaution is being taken.
Emergency crews are now standing down from the incident.
Recovery of the vehicles involved has been arranged and the road is expected to re-open in due course.
































































































Poor couple in the Suzuki. If this car was on the right side of the road and travelling at a low speed, sounds very much as if the Zafira driver is at fault. Why does everyone have to rush around speeding these days…….. slow down and get to where your going in one piece. Never drive faster than your guardian angel can fly!!!

Car drive too fast through the estate and cars are parked on corners every where even though they all have drive ways
how does this happen in an estate like that? unbeliveable must of been really moving to have caused that
