An elderly man has been treated for smoke inhalation following a fire at a Newport care home this morning (Tuesday).
Three fire crews from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called to Newport Residential Care Home on Watergate Road just before 06:50 this morning following reports of a bedroom fire on the ground floor.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building and extinguished the fire just 20 minutes later.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have treated one gentleman for smoke inhalation. It is understood there have been no other casualties.
All residents and staff were evacuated from the home, which specialises in care for those with mental illness.
