Firefighters from East Cowes, Newport and Ryde have all responded to an alert at GKN in East Cowes this morning (Friday).
3 appliances, an aerial ladder platform and the Incident Command Unit were mobilised to the Clarence Road site at around 03:15.
However, shortly after the arrivial of the first crew it was established that no action was required and all resources were stood down by 03:40.
It has been confirmed that smoke was seen coming from the compressor room. It’s thought that a system failure is to blame, possibly as a result of a worn belt or similar.
