A 44-year-old has been quizzed by Police on suspicion of drug driving after 2 people were injured in a motorcycle crash in Lake yesterday evening (Monday).
As first reported by Island Echo, emergency services were called at 19:15 to reports of a collision between a car and a motorcycle on Lake Hill.
Police, fire and ambulance crews all responded to the scene, where treatment was given to a motorcyclist – a man aged in his 60s.
He spent an hour on the ground before being conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment.
His pillion passenger, a young male, was checked over having sustained minor injuries.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that the driver of the car involved – a 44-year-old man – was arrested on suspicion of drug driving.
He has since been released from custody but remains under investigation while enquiries continue.
Yet more proof we need more traffic Police

over the last 10 years they have got worse especially since

It is not just the Island; it’s everywhere.
Anyone on the Mainland will tell you that a whiff of the wacky-backy is classed as ‘acceptable’ nowadays. Ketamine, which was once familiar in the Equestrian industry and used by Paramedics, is now seen as an ‘acceptable’ pastime.
Unless the law is changed, and the punishment significantly impacts the criminal and their family, nothing will change.
Twenty-six years on, when my life was changed due to a drunk/drug driver, all they got was a ‘smack on the bum’ as they were a juvenile. Yet, I continue to pay for their recklessness.
What I’d like to see is a deterrent. Anyone found guilty is moved to an Island (not the IoW) where they can never leave and are left to get on with their lives in squalor.
Devil’s Island would be ideal for them.

No excuse for drug or drink driving. Hope they throw the book at him if guilty. Should not be able to hold a driving licence ever
Drink or drug driving should = a lifetime ban and if caught re-offending
Minimum 10 year prison sentence.
Unless one gets tough with such numpties who drink and drug drive
the numpties will never stop committing such crimes.
There needs to be a proper deterrent for drink or drug driving. If it simply became the norm to order the vehicle being driven by someone under the influence beyond the legal limit to be crushed there would be an awful lot fewer drunk or stoned drivers on the road. They value their vehicles more than most other things.
Should be banged up for 5 years and banned for life ..but of course fall will happen..
Everyday there are problems on island roads with such
numpties.
