UPDATED: Firefighters have been called to Merrie Farm Park in Lake this morning (Saturday) where a digger has been engulfed in flames.
Black smoke is billowing into the sky as the fire rips through the cab of the large 23 tonne excavator., which is well alight.
1 fire appliance from Shanklin is on scene having been called out just before 10:20, with a second appliance en-route.
UPDATE @ 10:34 – An appliance from Ryde has now arrived at Lake, where fire crews are establishing a hydrant connection to provide a continuous supply of water as they tackle the fire.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are currently fighting the fire.
UPDATE – It has been confirmed that the fire involved the excavator’s cab, engine and a fuel tank, as well as a small gas cylinder.
Firefighters battled through a quagmire to reach the location of the fire, where crews used breathing apparatus, an extended hose reel and foam to bring the small blaze under control.
