Island Roads have been forced to close the main road connecting the villages of Nettlestone and St Helens this morning (Friday).
A diesel spill at the junction of Attrills Lane means that the carriageway is currently unsafe.
Operatives have been sent to the scene to clear the spill, with hopes of re-opening the road later on today.
Motorists are being diverted via Nettlestone Hill, Pondwell Hill, Calthorpe Road (or Bullen Road), Appley Road, Marlborough Road, Brading Road, Beaper Shute, Carpenters Road and Upper Green Road in both directions.
UPDATE – The road is now reported to have been re-opened.
