A crash between an ambulance and a car has forced the closure of the main road through the heart of Ryde tonight (Sunday). The 2-vehicle collision has occurred on the crossroads junction of Green Street and High Street. It appears that a Ford Ecosport emerged from the High Street and was hit by the ambulance as it headed down Green Street onto St John’s Road, causing a small amount of damage to each vehicle. It’s unknown at this time if the ambulance was responding on blue lights and sirens to an emergency at the time. Paramedics in the ambulance are now tending to the female driver of the car, who appears to have escaped any serious injury. An operational commander from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service is in attendance.
Police are on scene and have closed Green Street in both directions. Traffic is being diverted locally. UPDATE – Island Echo is told that the ambulance was passing through a red light when the collision occurred. The occupants of the Ford – a woman, a child and a dog – have escaped any serious injury.
