A road traffic collision involving at least 2 vehicles has resulted in the closure of The Downs this lunchtime (Thursday).
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are on scene at the Brading Down Road turnoff, where a Vauxhall and a Mercedes-Benz have been involved in a minor crash.
The collision occurred at around midday.
Traffic is backed up in the area with motorists being turned around and diverted by Island Roads operatives. Police are not yet on scene.
UPDATE @ 12:40 – Traffic is now being directed past the crash scene, allowing the road to re-open in both directions. There are still delays in the area.
Police have arrived on scene and are speaking with the vehicle owners.
No one is thought to be seriously injured.
UPDATE @ 14:30 – The scene has been cleared and the road is fully open.
When I drove through there the view around the corner, never good, was made even worse by the posting of banner adverts on the fence. I hope the adverts did not contribute to the accident.
