Emergency services are attending a road traffic collision on the outskirts of Newport this lunchtime (Monday).
2 fire appliances from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are on scene, alongside 2 ambulances from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and at least 4 police units.
The crash – which is believed to have involved at least 3 vehicles – has happened near to Island Cranes. It is feared that occupants of at least 1 vehicle are trapped, prompting the assistance of the fire service.
Forest Road has been blocked between Gunville Road traffic lights and Standen Avenue as a result of the collision.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and divert via Carisbrooke until further notice. Traffic is heavy in the area, backing up onto St Mary’s Roundabout.
UPDATE @ 12:55 – The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have now stood down from the incident. It transpired that no persons were trapped.
UPDATE @ 13:30 – Forest Road has now reopened and the incident has now been cleared.
1 person has been treated for minor injuries and the vehicles have now been recovered.
