Coastguard Rescue 175 has been involved in airlifting an injured person from a remote location near Alverstone to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport this morning (Friday).
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were called to a remote spot off the Alverstone to Newchurch cycle path sometime before 08:40, with an ambulance crew and duty officer using the track to gain access to the casualty.
Due to the remote location of the injured individual the decision was taken to request the assistance of the Lee-on-Solent based rescue helicopter.
The red and white chopper landed in nearby fields and swiftly evacuated the patient, landing at St Mary’s Hospital around 5 minutes later.
The individual is not thought to have sustained any life-threatening injuries.
