COASTGUARD CALLED TO ASSIST PARAMEDICS IN MOVING TEEN FROM BEACH

UPDATED: Coastguard officers from Ventnor are working with paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service in moving an unwell teenager from a beach in Shanklin tonight (Saturday).

Emergency services are on scene at the south end of Shanklin Esplanade, close to the cliff face past The Fisherman’s Cottage.

Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team were called into action at the request of the ambulance service shortly before 22:30. They are now working on safely conveying the unwell patient to the awaiting ambulance over 500m away.

According to a number of people in the area the casualty is a teenage girl.

UPDATE @ 23:15 – The incident has now been brought to a close.

The patient is being taken to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport.
