HM Coastguard has tasked a number of search and rescue resources to reports of a fire and lights at the base of Culver Cliff tonight (Tuesday).
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team (CRT) were tasked at around 22:15 to a 999 report of a fire and white lights a considerable distance along Yaverland beach on rocks at the base of Culver cliff.
Ventnor CRT has taken up position on the top of cliff near to the Coastguard Cottages to establish whether anyone is in difficulty.
Needles Coastguard Rescue Team have also been tasked to attend the incident alongside Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat.
The fire that was initially reported appears to have been extinguished. The tide is currently incoming, with a high tide expected at 23:24.
Coastguards have set up a rope rescue rig at the top of the cliff, directly above where the person or people are believed to be.

UPDATE @ 23:10 – It has been confirmed that night fishermen have taken up position on the rocks and despite being cut off by the incoming tide, they are happy with their current situation.
Coastguard resources are now standing down from the incident, which has been declared a false alarm with good intent.
If you or someone else is in difficulty on the coast or at sea, or if you spot what you think may be unexploded ordnance, then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Further safety information can be found at https://coastguardsafety.campaign.gov.uk/.
