COASTGUARD Rescue Teams have this evening been assisting in the safe recovery of a large section of wood which was hanging from Ryde Pier.
Workers from South West Train’s Island Line spotted the section of wood hanging from the historic pier and deemed it to be a hazard to shipping vessels in the area.
Ryde’s Independent Inshore Rescue Lifeboat attended the scene showing blue lights to alert vessels to the potential hazard while coastguard teams, assisted by rail workers, safely removed the piece of wood from the pier’s structure to allow it to drift to shore.
This follows a day of gale force winds and rough conditions in The Solent which suspended a number of cross-Solent services for most of the day.
