Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bembridge and Ventnor are conducting a search of the water near Ryde Harbour alongside colleagues from Ryde Inshore Rescue this morning (Sunday).
The 2 teams are on scene at Ryde Esplanade and are thought to be looking for an individual in the water.
Ryde Inshore Rescue’s ‘Rescue 2’ lifeboat has also been launched at the request of Solent Coastguard.
A search of the harbour area and along the shoreline is underway. Police are also on scene and are assisting with the incident.
It’s understood the alarm was raised sometime before 03:20.
UPDATE @ 04:45 – The search continues in Ryde this morning, both on the shore and at sea.
Ryde Rescue 2 is out on the water in the vicinity of Ryde Pier, whilst Coastguard Rescue Officers conduct a sweep of the beach, harbour pontoons and surrounding areas.
It has been confirmed that the volunteers of Ryde Inshore Rescue were paged at 03:08.
Nothing has been found thus far but the search continues.
UPDATE @ 05:30 – As the sun rises, the incident is now drawing to a conclusion. Resources are standing down from Ryde Harbour.
No persons have been located.
UPDATE @ 07:00 – It has been confirmed that the incident was sparked when someone was seen on the rocks at Ryde Harbour, but then disappeared
