A black Citroen Xsara Picasso has crashed into a parked car in Ryde this afternoon (Monday), promoting an emergency service response.
2 ambulances and paramedic officer from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are currently on scene at John Street. Marked and unmarked police vehicles are also in attendance.
As a result, the one-way road has been closed to traffic while the occupant is tended to.
Traffic heading out of Ryde town is unable to exit via Victoria Street / Garfield Road / High Street. Motorists are being diverted locally via Union Street.
UPDATE @ 14:25 – A man has been rushed to St Mary’s Hospital and is described as being in a ‘serious’ condition. It is thought he suffered a medical episode at the wheel.
A female passenger has also been taken to St Mary’s with an arm injury.
Recovery of the vehicle has been arranged. The road remains closed in the meantime.
UPDATE @ 18:55 – The man has been airlifted to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
