A car has left the road and come to rest on its roof in a field at Blackwater Hollow this morning (Thursday).
The incident has occurred on the main road between Rookley and Newport on a downhill section, close to the S-bends.
Island Echo is told that the vehicle – a Honda CRV – has gone over a bank and come to rest upside down.
Police are on scene but the road remains open at this time.
UPDATE @ 08:56 – It has been confirmed that the driver has suffered a minor shoulder injury in the incident, which occurred at just gone 07:00.

Wait for it. Wait for it. The comments about bad drivers will soon come rolling in, even though the armchair critics no nothing about how it happen.
I totally agree with you, nothing to do with driving too fast in wet slippery conditions.
10/10 for sarcasm lol, exactly what you said = drive to the conditions.
When are people like you going to learn we have a massive problem with bad drivers on this island?, the car ended up on it’s roof, its proable the diver was driving too fast and didn’t give enough time for the journey when leaving home.
Yes, sometimes it can be a medical problem and there’s little we can do about that, however mostly it’s idiots that are to blame..
Why is it probable they were driving too fast?
The report states that the driver only suffered an injury due to the incident, nothing about a separate medical episode instigating the accident. By that i think we can safely assume this was a driver not taking sufficient care and attention in relatively poor driving conditions.
Magnets in the field i believe causing all the incidents at this location.
No its not bad driving its just island drivers
I do believe that I have a right to coment
Be hard pushed to find a true island nowdays. More n likely overners forgettin there over here..it taint no Motorway..we got bends mud n cow dung..
No its mainly island drivers involved, its the poor standard of driving and not driving to the conditions including speed.
delete the word “island” and you may be getting nearer to the truth. Driving in general is worse, less awareness of conditions, less consideration for others etc. It’s dangerous out there.
I have a lot of Island born friends, a few have used bushes for brakes though… 🙂
We moved over here, knowing in advance how narrow, uneven and dark they are, the thing is we moved over, because we knew how thoughtful, kind and caring the people are.
Silly thing to say
That’s a bit harsh tarring all island drivers with the same brush. Are you an island driver?
I feel sorry for the island Drivers, having to dodge all the influx of Mainland drivers now on the island.
Island Drivers used to Drive around at 10 miles an hour all day, Now with all the Mainland Chav’s living
Here and more to come, with the mass building going on.
what chance do they have at pottering about, when they have cars driving at motorway speeds.
It is notable that so many incidents occur at the same place. No doubt IWC/IR/Police are investigating carefully to see if there’s a common cause…
They have and it = careless driving
I agree, either Careless driving, or driving without due care and attention, but will driver get charged for such ?? Probably not, no proof… Driver will probably buy a larger screen mobile !!
Careless and undue care are the same thing Dave.
Being a single vehicle RTC, they probably wouldn’t get reported for anything unless they had no insurance, dowl etc. Costly experience but hopefully they will learn from it.
Ohh no please do not involve the council… they will put up traffic lights because they like to stop traffic.. and it would take about two years to complete…
Has never been any problems there until Covid, near empty streets, people not realising there actually are speed limits !!
Your all wrong .It’s cos brexit and the covids .
Yes that will be next, Covid causes driving accidents…
Another brilliant driver on the Isle of Wight… any news of why this person was out? STAY AT HOME… now this person has to make more work for NHS…
Could be on their way to work at 7am maybe even at St Mary’s. Please people wait until you know the facts.
There’s lot’s of unroadworthy cars being driven about on our isle. Add to that the speedsters and old people driving via Braille. Don’t second guess anyone’s movements. Just stay way back! They’ll find a hedge or loss of license.
