Police, fire and ambulance crews are attending a road traffic collision on the outskirts of Ryde this morning (Saturday).
A Fiat Punto has left the carriageway, struck a road sign and become wedged in a ditch at the beginning of Beaper Shute, just a few hundred yards from Tesco Roundabout.
3 fire appliances – 2 from Ryde and 1 from Sandown – are currently on scene alongside 2 Police and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
It’s understood the single vehicle crash occurred at around 02:00.
UPDATE @ 02:33 – The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have now stood down from the incident.
It was initially feared at least 1 person was trapped inside the vehicle but that has proven not to be the case.
Paramedics are checking over 1 individual whilst Police speak to another.
The road remains open in both directions.
UPDATE @ 11:55 – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that 1 person was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.
No arrests have been made.
