UPDATED: A car has ricocheted off an embankment and come to rest on its side in amongst trees lining Middle Road near Calbourne tonight (Sunday).
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, Police and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were all mobilised to the scene, approximately half way between Carisbrooke and Calbourne, at around 22:00.
It’s here that a Ford Mondeo has left the carriageway after hitting an embankment on the left hand side of the road whilst travelling away from Newport.
2 ambulances are on scene attending to the 2 occupants of the vehicle. Thankfully, they are not thought to have sustained any serious injuries.
2 fire appliances from Newport and a duty officer have also attended the incident but have since stood down and returned to station. No action was taken.
Police have now arranged recovery of the car from its current position.
UPDATE – The driver of the Mondeo, a 65-year-old man from Freshwater, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving but has since been released with no further action to be taken.
