A car has crashed into a parked vehicle and rolled onto its side on a quiet residential road in Shanklin this afternoon (Friday).
Emergency services are on scene at Cedar Drive, off Landguard Road, where a car has left the carriageway and come to a stop on its side in the front garden of a property.
Firefighters from Shanklin are assisting the occupants of the vehicle, who appear to be trapped. A second fire crew from Ryde are reported to be en-route to the incident.
Police and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are also on scene having been alerted to the collision at around 16:15.
UPDATE @ 17:24 – 2 individuals have been extricated from the Citroen and handed over into the care of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Island Echo understands that the driver of their vehicle accidentally pressed the wrong pedal and accelerated unexpectedly into a parked Vauxhall Insignia.
No one has been seriously injured in the incident and the property has only seen minor damage to the front garden.

More bad drivers on the Island roads…
VERY LUCKY PEOPLE COULD HAVE BEEN LOADS WORSE
They’re filming the new Fast & Furious movie on the Island?
Why wasn’t this news earlier?
Definitely becoming a popular particpent sport on the island
Bet he or she went to the same school of motoring as my wife!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bet it was an automatic !
Take your driving test again ?
Hope they are ok.
Sad to say it, but this is very common on the isle.
Would be good to know whether these accidents occur from manuals or automatic cars. My guess is the latter.
Agreed, make everyone drive manual and only up to 2nd gear.
I drive a auto so I don’t think you can point the finger at this type of vehicle they are no different to drive really just one less pedal
All fine and dandy until you left foot brake and get someone smash the crap out of yourr rear end lmao
Totally disagree David. I f their old school with a licence to to drive both a manual and automatic sometimes the individual goes back to manual mode pushing the gear stick forward into reverse thinking they are putting it in first gear then acceleorating forward, have dealt with many that have done this in the past. Thankfully nobody was walking by at the time as yes that could have ended in a tragedy similar to that at Yaverland many years ago for those that remember.
Just wondering what age the driver was. Wrong pedal???
Not looking at the phone then, unusual
Superb driving!! Excellent space saving parallel parking. Not a bush squashed, for sale sign and lamppost intact. And even managed not to upset island rds with the drop kerb problem by using another car as a leapfrog. It’s amazing what a miscalculation can achieve ….
HAS HE /SHE ENTERED IN THE SANDOWN SPRINT ?? WERE THEY PRACTICING DONT GET THIS PROBLEM WITH MOTORCYCLES
No, they tend to catapult the rider and not the whole vehicle
Bungalow for sale with off road parking
Surprised no one hasn’t said fixed link will improve driving glad they got out ok driving on island is shocking even the young ones think they can drive and can’t
still need a fixed link
To be fair a lot of drivers on the I.O.W don’t know their left from their right.
I think it is lucky that a lot of I.OW drivers don’t go on the mainland there would be carnage.
Retest every 10 years. Currently no one is responsible for stopping you driving when you are no longer able to. Don’t have to be old to have your ability to drive safe from illness.
Imagine if this had happened outside a school when the children were leaving.
They should be jailed for dangerous driving as a lesson to other careless bad drivers.
More bad driving on the I o w
