Police and paramedics are attending a road traffic collision between a car and a motorcycle in East Cowes this morning (Wednesday).
The incident has taken place near the junction of Victoria Grove and Beatrice Avenue.
Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that they were called to the scene at 08:52.
Southern Vectis say that their Route 5 buses are diverting via York Avenue until further notice. Bus stops on Adelaide Grove and Victoria Grove are not being served at this time.
UPDATE @ 09:40 – The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has landed at the scene of the crash, which has involved a Ford Fiesta and a Vespa-type scooter.
UPDATE @ 09:58 – A male motorcyclist has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by land ambulance this morning. His injuries are not as serious as first feared and has therefore not required airlifting to a mainland hospital.
Island Echo is told that the young male came to rest some distance from his scooter.
The HIOW air ambulance has now left the scene, returning to base ready for its next mission.
Victoria Grove remains closed in both directions at this time but is expected to re-open following the recovery of the vehicles.
