All of Southern Vectis’ bus services will grind to a halt for a period on Monday to allow staff to watch Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral.
The bus operator has confirmed that a Sunday timetable will be in operation on 19th September, but that services will be suspended in their entirety between 10:00 and 13:00.
Customers may continue to see some disruption until 14:00 as buses transit around the Island to get to their correct locations to resume the advertised timetable.
Tourist routes The Needles Breezer, Downs Breezer, Island Coaster and Shanklin Shuttle will not be operating at all on Monday.
Andrew Wickham, Southern Vectis’ Managing Director, says:
“With His Majesty King Charles III declaring the day of his mother’s funeral – Monday 19 September – a Bank Holiday, we have revised our services.
“We know many of our drivers will want to observe this significant event in the history of our nation, so we are also planning a cessation of services for the duration of the funeral.
‘Along with millions of people, both in the UK and across the world, many of my colleagues are feeling a sense of loss. The funeral will be an opportunity for people to come together, pay their respects, and reflect on the life of a unique monarch who lived her life in dedication of her subjects.”

I wonder if you’ve every had to live pay check to pay check, being a single parent with 2 kids to support. I’ll remember to tell the utility companies and my landlord that some twerp online told me there was more to life than money – lets see how that goes. Lets hope you never have to worry about money like some of us do, maybe one day karma will come and pay you a visit.

I understand not everyone will have the time off and I feel bad about that, truly, but let’s not disrespect the rights of those who can have the chance to pay their respects. We are talking 3 hours. Would you really want to be the one to say to your bus driver “I don’t care that you want to pay your respects…I need you to drive me to work”. Your right does not outweigh theirs. There has been enough notice for this to make other arrangements. Personal responsibility is important.
