A Southern Vectis double-decker bus has been gutted this afternoon after a fire ripped through the back of the vehicle.
Black smoke filled the air near to the High Street in the town shortly before 13:20. It is believed the fire started in the engine compartment, which is located it the rear section of the vehicle.
Two pumping appliances from Sandown and Shanklin are currently on the scene tackling the fire using breathing apparatus and hose reels.
Avenue Road is closed at the junction with Fort Street.
No one is believed to have been injured in the incident.
UPDATE @ 15:30 – Fire crews have left the scene and recovery has been arranged to remove the vehicle from the roadside. It has been confirmed that no persons were injured as a result of the incident.
