Repairs to a burst water main mean that Brading High Street is set to be closed to all traffic tonight (Wednesday).
The closure is necessary for Southern Water to undertake the emergency works near to the zebra crossing.
Motorists will have to divert from 18:30 when the closure comes into force between West Street and Cross Street. The main road connecting ryde to Sandown will be impassable.
Although water is currently showing – and has been for a couple of days – work will not commence until 18:30 to minimalize disruption to peak-time traffic.
All vehicles will be diverted via St Helens and Bembridge – Rowborough Lane, Carpenters Road, Upper Green Road, Station Road, Embankment Road, Kings Road, Sherbourne Street, High Street, Church Road, Foreland Road, Steyne Road, Sandown Road, Bembridge Road, Marshcombe Shute to Yarbridge.
Local traffic will be able to divert via Ashey and Brading Downs.
UPDATE THURSDAY @ 06:10 – Brading High Street has now re-opened to all traffic in both directions.
