UPDATED: It’s the news that fast food lovers have been waiting for… Burger King WILL be opening on the Isle of Wight in the near future.
Rumours have been running wild for many years with dozens upon dozens of Islanders dreaming of a Burger King outlet on the Island. But it has finally been confirmed by the major international chain that they are heading to the Isle of Wight.
It was reported last week that Burger King could open at the Coppins Bridge leisure complex in Newport. Then, on Tuesday, Island Echo exclusively reported that Otium Real Estate are looking to bring new food, drink and leisure brands to their complex with the downsizing of Office Outlet.
A spokesperson for Burger King has today (Thursday) said:
“Burger King are regularly evaluating opportunities to bring our great-tasting products to more guests in new locations.
“We can confirm that there will be a new restaurant opening in Newport on the Isle of Wight. We will inform you the official opening date when more information becomes available.”
UPDATE @ 17:15 – Stand down… Burger King have now backtracked to say that nothing is confirmed at this moment in time.
A spokesperson for the fast food chain has issued a correction, saying:
“Burger King franchisees are regularly evaluating opportunities to bring our great-tasting products to more guests in new locations.
“We are currently exploring opportunities in this location; however we do not have anything confirmed at this time. We will keep you informed when more information becomes available.”
The mixed messages, partnered with Otium’s desire to brand ‘new food, drink and leisure brands’ to Coppins Bridge, paints a fairly firm picture that Burger King will, eventually, open in Newport.
