A property in Shanklin has been completely destroyed by a fire that broke out during the early hours of this morning (Saturday).
A total of 4 appliances and the Incident Command Unit were mobilised to Westlake Avenue, off James Avenue, shortly before 04:30.
The property was well alight when firefighters arrived, with flames breaking out through the roof.
Crews from Ryde, Sandown and Shanklin spent over 2 hours on scene working to contain and extinguish the blaze, which has caused extensive damage to the bungalow.
4 breathing apparatus, 4 hose reel jets and 2 main jets were used to contain and extinguish the fire.
Thankfully, nobody was injured in the incident and neighbouring properties are unaffected.
Police have established a cordon around the property with officers maintaining a scene guard.
Investigations into the cause of the fire, to be conducted by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service and Hampshire Constabulary, are expected to get underway later this morning.
It was a busy night for the fire service with crews also called to a house fire in Yarmouth, as previously reported by Island Echo.
UPDATE @ 11:30 – Police have confirmed that they are treating the fire as suspicious.
