The Brexit Party has gained a total of 19,392 votes in the European Elections here on the Isle of Wight – 46% of the total votes cast.
Islanders made their way to polling stations earlier this week to have their say in the European Elections – the election that many argue shouldn’t have happened after the UK’s Brexit vote almost 3 years ago.
Here on the Island 38.3% of the electorate of 109,125 turned out, casting 41,551 votes. 276 ballot papers were rejected taking the final number of successful votes to 41,827.
The Green Party came in second with 6,855 votes followed by the Liberal Democrats on 6,557 and then Conservatives and Unionist Party with 3,577.
Tonight’s result shouldn’t come as a shock as 49,173 Islanders – 61.95% – voted to Leave in the EU Referendum in 2016.
So far, as the regional results come in, it would seem The Brexit Party result here is to be replicated elsewhere in the country with wins so far in North West, East of England, Wales and West Midlands.
The full results are as follows:

You might want to check the headline, last time I checked 46% was not a “majority”
Bob the bitter remoaner no doubt.
One referendum in 2016 voted leave, one general election voted in the tory’s as they promised to deliver Brexit and now a EU election that should not have taken place, however, was allowed to happen, as an underhand way of seeing if the views of the country had changed, regarding it membership of the EU, has delivered a third decisive message to the government – get this country out of europe, or we will get rid of further MP’s at the next general election, who are not committed to delivering the brexit we decided upon, three times, in a democratic manner.

As usual the media will paint it as a victory for Brexit, but it’s pretty much split, as it’s always been.
Not a single rabid brexiteer has been able to explain how leaving a democratically elected organisation like the EU to join a non democratic WTO will be good for Britain.
The cult of Brexit is now like a religion. It’s followers will believe whatever they’re told, regardless of things like facts.
When we do eventually leave with no deal, as so many of you want, maybe you will finally wake up from your trance like state and realise that you’ve all cut off your nose to spite your face.
“If Brexit is a disaster, I will go and live abroad” Nigel Farage.
We have voted to leave the Eu, wasp star, stop whining. The EU commission, the president and the commissioners are all unelected.
We are fed up with a bunch of self serving bureaucrats telling this country what it should or should not do. At least with our own politicians we can vote them out every so often.
Had we voted to remain, then this country would have given up sterling for the euro, given up its sovereignty over independent
monetary policy and we would be at the mercy of the franco-german dominated EU, as are the rest of the EU nations.
Perhaps you will wake up from your trance like state and will realise that this country has been saved from being swallowed up in a federal europe, that has no fiscal policy, no real integration and is a million miles away from being seen as a united states of europe.
No deal and simply walking away is a better option. The EU want us to stay as we import more from the EU than we export and by leaving we buy and sell more goods outside the EU which impacts their economic state. The uk is far stronger than they would have you believe.
No whining from me. I’ve long since given up trying to convince the gullible, the xenophobic and the paranoid.
I’m now of the opinion that we have no choice but to go through with it.
Your reply contains the usual guff about a federal Europe and being forced to give up the pound. All utter rubbish perpetrated by the right wing press (along with bendy bananas and pink sausages). A quick Google of ‘Lisbon Treaty Myths’ is all it takes.
As for no deal. Do I believe the vast majority of economists and experts that warn of the massive damage that a no deal Brexit will do (and already is doing)? Or do I put my trust in a snake oil salesman, who along with most high profile Brexiteers, will do very nicely out of their hedge funds when the pound collapses?
And what about negotiating new deals? Do you really think we’ll get better deals on our own than in a 28 country block? Does the corner shop get better deals from their suppliers than Tesco? We’ll hardly be negotiating from a position of power.
Not one single politician advocated leaving with no deal before the referendum. (“A post-Brexit free trade deal with the EU should be the easiest in human history” Liam Fox). A no deal Brexit was never on the table. This is because it is economic suicide and they all know it.
You might want to check. Add the Remain parties votes together and it still doesn’t pass the Brexit party total. The message is clear. We want OUT of the EU.
If all you can do is criticise a headline then don’t read stories on here, there is a saying if you have nothing nice to say then say nothing at all.
All about back handers!!
I think it might be fair to assume that the UKIP vote would be to leave so, even without knowing the actual, confused, position of the tory vote, the combined Brexit Party and UKIP vote present an indisputable ‘leave’ majority, albeit a small one.
Roll on the General Election…. if the Tories and Labour are unhappy about this result then watch what happens in the General Election, and no…. the Lib-Dems will not get in!
With reference to my last post however the report above is a little confusing, it states that of the 41551 votes cast 276 were spoiled which should make the total successful votes 41275 not the figure given.
So the Brexit party got 46% of 38% No brainer, the island wants to stay in the EU
If you wish to keep up to date with the brexit party on the isle of wight please join this group. 🙂 We must band together to
make sure democracy is safe guarded. The referendum result must be enacted before any other action. It’s called DEMOCRACY! https://www.facebook.com/groups/brexitpartyisleofwight/

If I join the Brexit Party what are the advantages of joining for this Country ?
Why the hell did we join in the first place beats me all this we should stay in we did ok before we joined we need our country back we need our country back not be rule by Brussels two wars fought to give us our freedom just remember that
Exactly the sort of jingoistic nonsense rant that got us into this mess.
At a time where the world is becoming more global, all the Little Englanders want us to retract into our shell, no doubt singing “Land of Hope and Glory”.
The two wars ended up uniting Europe. Brexit will not only alienate us, but will see the break up of the United Kingdom.
News flash. We don’t have an empire any more.
You just do not get it do you wasp star.
Had the country voted to remain, then all matters would be back on the table.
This country would simply become another state in europe. Do you actually understand the destination that the EU project has?
Your responses so far, are nothing more than remainer, insults.
The final expectation for europe is, one union, governed from brussels, that has one military, one currency, one fiscal policies that
covers all europeans, irrespective of their geographical location.
Europe is not united – it is a collection of states that has national interests, borders, individual policies that conflict with the dictats from the unelected commissioners and freedom of movement is being rolled back slowly and surely. The only thing they have in common, is the euro and that is it.
wake up wasp star – I lived in Southern Europe for some years a while back and whilst I enjoyed the time there, I recommend you get rid of your rose tinted spectacled view of the situation, as it couldn’t be further from the truth.
wasp star
The germans issue bonds that are negative yielding or free and the italians have to pay 2% coupon on theirs – how does that make all states equal in europe- there should be large scale fiscal transfers across europe so that poorer areas are supported by the richer states – which they (germany) do not want to do – they are more interested in imposing further restrictions and making the italians suffer, rather than create the federal europe they are supposed to be doing.
Italy is going to reduce taxes, brussels is trying to stop them. Italy needs something to help itself get going again, brussels and the germans are not interested. Germany has a culture of saving and paying its way, the southern european states do not save and do not pay for anything unless the absolutely have to. There isn’t going to be much cooperation there.
….
Like I said wasp star – not exactly a unified group is it. Italy being dictated to by Brussels, who are dictated to by germany.
Immagine….. You live on a street where all the neighbours decide to club together. Some are wealthier than others and you are one of the better off. You pool all your money together and the less wealthy neighbours are better off.
Some of the poorer neighbours cant afford to pay their mirtgage so you have to help them do that by bailing them out. Then their kids come and raid your fridge and take the food home with them. Some of them even decide to stay despite your not liking it much.
You have to put up with all of this and a bunch of rules made by neighbourhood watch all to trade freely with them without a tarrif.
Thats europe!!
Sounds like a great deal to me.
Can someone point out the benefits again because I cant remember.
Well done Islanders .It is time to get rid of some councillors..Selling off local sights for profiteers , you could say !!.Not in your interest and only theirs .. The Elite must pay for exorbitance of Island revenues for residents ,i.e .parking ..Ferry fees . ..far too expensive ! Why not ..pay as you go ? Instead of £250 plus for 5 return tickets..Not O N ..I.M.O .. Having to go back and forth for 97 year old mother living on mainland runs into thousands a year …Some things should change !!
