A body has been discovered in the Solent just off the coast of the Isle of Wight.
The authorities were alerted to the sighting of an object in the water at around 10:50 this morning prompting the launch of Gosport Independent Lifeboat, as well as the scrambling of Coastguard Rescue 175 from Lee-on-Solent.
Sadly, the search of the area led to the discovery of a body around 1 nautical mile off Ryde Pier.
Hampshire Constabulary’s Marine Unit have worked with Gosport Lifeboat to recover the body, which has been taken to Portsmouth this afternoon.
Formal identification is yet to take place.
A spokesperson for HM Coastguard has said:
“At 10.50am this morning, HM Coastguard received a report of an incident off Ryde Pier.
“The HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Lee-on-Solent was sent, as well as the Gosport ILB Lifeboat and Hillhead Coastguard Rescue Team.”

UPDATE @ 16:55 – Hampshire Constabulary has issued a statement.
A spokesperson for the force has said:
“A man’s body has been found in the Solent today (Monday 10 August).
“Formal identification has yet to take place but the family of missing Elezaj Shkelzen have been informed.
“At this time, a missing person investigation is still ongoing with regards to Elezaj”.
UPDATE THURSDAY – The body has been confirmed as being that of Elezaj Shjelzen.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has today said:
“The body of a man found in the Solent on Monday 10 August has been confirmed as that of missing Elezaj Shkelzen. Elezaj’s family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
“His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner”.
Maybe it might be linked to the jet skier ???
