Fire crews from Ryde and Shanklin are responding to a barn fire on Carpenters Road this afternoon (Tuesday).
Two appliances from Ryde and one from Shanklin are on scene working to control the fire on the outskirts of St. Helens.

Despite being initially reported as a barn fire, crews arrived to find a fire in some open grassland which was feared to be spreading toward an outbuilding.
Crews worked swiftly to tackle the fire and prevented the spread any further.
Damping down is now in progress to ensure the fire is not re-ignited.
