Police have been called to the scene of a fire which broke out in Shide earlier this morning (Saturday).
Firefighters have been battling to extinguish the blaze in a porta cabin to the rear of National Tyres off the main Blackwater to Newport Road
3 fire crews from Newport and Cowes were mobilised to St George’s Way at around 07:30. They’ve used 4 breathing apparatus and 2 hose reels to dowse the flames.
The circumstances of the incident are now being investigated with Hampshire Constabulary called in due to the potentially suspicious nature of the fire.
Although the 6x25m building is still standing, the inside has been severely damaged by fire.
Green Watch of Newport Fire Station have praised the building’s occupants for ensuring doors within the building were kept shut, helping to prevent the spread of fire.
Anyone with information about this incident should call Police on 101.

At least the tyre store never ignited. There is a growing amount of vile low life here now, with plenty more to come when such places as Pennie Feathe r and Bull en are built and housed with mainly social housing from the main land stock.
God help us then.
yea cos its not like theres already a bunch of feral islanders commiting crime is there? Those terrible mainland folk bringing all their problems to this idyllic inbred paradise.
The island DOESN’T need large housing developments like Pennyfeathers or Bullen regardless who are going to fill this number of dwellings. But, we all know or should be aware the overspill from large cities are going to be housed here on the island. Due to the increased numbers of cars that will be on island roads, the increased headcount is going to put an enormous strain on the road infrastructure, our hospital, our Police force and the list goes on and on. And of course, yes, there will be undesirable types who will be housed here from the mainland. I am not suggesting everyone from across the Solent are troublemakers, they’re not, but there will be some who are, families who have been moved around due to their antisocial and disruptive behaviour, have nowhere else to go so our ‘dont give a fig for what is best for the island’ Council will take these people and be paid lots of money for doing so. There are enough ‘home grown’ idiots coming out from under their rocks as the years pass we really don’t need anymore! God help the Isle of Wight. Changed forever.
Sarah I am sure that social housing will allow you to do a swap with someone on the mainland, PROVIDED your rent is up-to-date and not in arrears. That way YOU may find you are happier and an odds on, your neighbours would too.
If the scrotes are caught they should be given max fines & possible prison sentence.
Bring back national service & use as cannon fodder, that’s all they are fit for.
If you cannot even spell the names makes me wonder if you are one of the undesirables.
Oh, I can spell them well enough. Just that sometimes contentious ‘issues’ where the powers that be have much sway, are not ‘allowed’ on here, likely using certain words to filter such.
So by using wrong spelling or spaces avoids such.
So YOU are wrong Ron, or as you prefer ‘ron’, showing your own ignorance of the English language.
Be nice to it, he doesn’t understand!
