Armed Police have taken up position outside a property in Sandown tonight (Friday).
A number of Armed Response officers from both the Island and the mainland have been deployed to Leed Street in the town – the second or third time in as many weeks.
Fully armoured officers with guns drawn and shields at the ready are moving in on an address.
Island Echo understands that Police have received reports of a male with a firearm – the same report received by the force last week.
The incident began around 22:00.
UPDATE @ 23:30 – Police have moved in on the target location but the occupant is not at the address.
A number of units have left the scene and are thought to be relocating to make an arrest in connection with the ongoing investigation.
Further information is expected to be released in the morning.
UPDATE SATURDAY – A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has this morning said:
“We were called at 9:15pm on Friday 17 May to reports of a man with a weapon on Leed Street in Sandown.
“Specialist officers carried out enquiries in the area and spoke to a man, but no weapon was located and no offences were identified..
“The Neighbourhood Policing Team will be carrying out regular patrols in the area”.
