FOLLOWING a head-on crash involving three cars yesterday, police are trying to trace the driver of a silver car which was travelling along Staplers Road from Newport to Wootton Bridge at around 09:30.
It’s believed the vehicle may have been overtaken shortly before a collision involving a silver Citroen Xsara Picasso, a blue Ford Ka and a blue Kia estate.
Police are appealing for the driver of the silver car to come forward as they may hold information which could assist with the investigation.
Sergeant Paul Bailey of Shanklin Roads Policing Unit, said: “We’re keen to hear from the driver as we believe they were in the vicinity of the crash moments before it happened.
“If you think this is you, please get in touch as soon as possible, even if you don’t think you saw anything. Something you remember may assist with our investigation.”
The driver of the Ka, a 75-year-old man from Newport, remains in hospital today in a critical but stable condition. The front seat passenger a 70-year-old woman, also from Newport, is recovering in hospital.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Sgt Paul Bailey at Shanklin Roads Policing Unit on 101, quoting Operation Tennison.
