UPDATED: The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has landed in Ryde this morning (Thursday) – the helicopter’s second deployment to the Island so far today.
Life-saving doctors and paramedics from the HEMS team have landed at Prestwood Grange off Smallbrook Lane at the request of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service (IOWAS). The distinctive yellow and green helicopter touched down in the field at around 10:30.
An awaiting ambulance has transported the crew to nearby High Park Road where an individual has been taken unwell at a residental address.
Earlier on today HIOWAA were called to Bembridge Coast Hotel to assist local paramedics.
UPDATE @ 11:27 – The patient has now been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by land ambulance, accompanied by the HEMS team.
The air ambulance has taken off from Prestwood Grange and is en-route to the St Mary’s Hospital helipad. However, an initial attempt to fly to Newport had to be aborted as the helicopter’s side door slid open during flight.
