The main road between Shanklin and Ventnor has been blocked by a fallen tree this afternoon (Monday).
Access between the 2 towns has been completely severed at Church Road.
A large tree has come down across the entire carriageway.
Motorists will have to divert via Whiteley Bank and Wroxall in both directions until further notice.
Southern Vectis buses are diverting while the tree is cleared.
Route 3 buses will divert from Shanklin Old Village via Victoria Avenue, Whiteley Bank, Wroxall to Ventnor in both directions.
Island Roads are aware of the tree that fell at around 15:50 and contractors are en-route to clear the road.
UPDATE @ 19:08 – Church Road remains closed this evening with route 3 buses still on diversion.
Southern Vectis have said they have been informed by Island Roads that the road is likely to remain closed for several more hours.
UPDATE @ 22:12 – Island Roads contractors have worked continuously for many hours to chop up and remove the tree.
Local tree surgeons contracted in by Island Roads, have been on-site clearing the fallen Oaktree, alongside Hiab lorries removing the logs and debris from the carriageway.
The tree has now been successfully cleared and the road has now reopened to traffic.
Southern Vectis’ Route 3 buses have now resumed their normal line of route.

Hope island road response time is quicker than the tree that went down at quarr abbey yesterday why don’t island roads give emergencies to contractors they give everything else to contractors?
Shut up!
I’m surprised that the lamposts at Quarr didn’t come down as well as the tree. At least they are leaning away from the roadway.
Ffs it’s a tree across the road!! Everyone needs to harden up a bit, it’s not the end of the world !!
There’s so many people wrapped in cotton wool.
Just stay indoors, if you don’t like the weather bugger of to Spain or somewhere!!
It is what it is.
They do. My son works for one of the contractors and he’s been out all hours over the last two days helping clear the roads. Get your facts before commenting.
More bad trees on the Island,
Any updates as to when the road might be cleared and open please.
well done to all who have worked hard and re opened the road.Thank you
Love the fact road is open when reported island road contractors worked HARD to get road open if it would of been island road cutting tree road would of been shut a week
In think you meant something like: “I Love the fact road is open. When reported, it stated that island road contractors worked hard to get road open. However, if it HAD been island roads cutting the tree (rather than contractors), the road would have been shut for a week”
If could you work on your grammar and punctuation a little,.. it would make it much easier to read and understand what you are trying to say.
