Motorists have ground to a halt in Newport as a result of an abnormal load becoming stuck at Nodehill this afternoon (Tuesday).
A large mobile home being moved from one location to another – thought to be Colwell Bay – has become stuck at Trafalgar Road.
It’s understood the lorry driver attempted to turn left from St John’s Place into Trafalgar Road but has been unable to negotiate the turn. The rear of the mobile home is just inches away from a parked Range Rover.
Southern Vectis are reporting that traffic in the area is quickly becoming girdlocked and many Island Echo readers are reporting delays across Newport.
Island Roads are advising motorists to avoid St John’s Place, Trafalgar Road and Orchard Street due to the obstruction.
UPDATE @ 17:15 – The obstruction has now been cleared according to Island Roads.
However, the mobile home is now making its way along Middle Road to the West Wight leading to tailbacks.
UPDATE @ 18:33 – The transfer of the mobile home has hit another hitch – this time at School Green Road in Freshwater.
Road barriers have been smashed out of the ground as part of the efforts to pass through a narrowing near Tennyson Road.
Southern Vectis say that Route 7 and 12 buses are delayed as a result of this latest incident. Traffic is said to be at a standstill around the High Street.
