UPDATED: 83-YEAR-OLD ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER AFTER SANDOWN ASSAULT

An 83-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following an incident at a home in Sandown yesterday morning (Friday). As first reported by Island Echo, emergency services rushed to a bungalow on The Ridgeway, off Perowne Way, at just before 09:45. A woman was found to have sustained serious head injuries and was airlifted by the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance to Southampton’s Major Trauma Centre, where she remains this lunchtime. An elderly male was taken to St Mary’s Hospital by land after being wheeled out of the same bungalow.m, accompanied by 2 officers. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has now confirmed that having been discharged from hospital, the 83-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to murder the woman. Their relationship is unknown at this time. Detectives from Newport CID are continuing their investigations into the circumstances of yesterday’s incident. Forensic investigators continue to examine the crime scene, piecing together the events of Friday morning. The pensioner remains in custody for questioning. Police say that the incident was one of a domestic nature and do not believe there to be anyone else involved. UPDATE SUNDAY – The 83-year-old suspect has been released from custody on conditional bail. Investigations continue, with the pensioner expected to answer bail on 9th November.
