Wightlink’s Fishbourne-Portsmouth car ferry service is delayed by at least 1 hour this morning (Wednesday) due to an earlier linkspan issue.
The 04:00 sailing from Fishbourne failed to depart on time as a result of a technical issue, which is now having a knock on effect to other departures.
The cross-Solent operator is advising that the 06:00, 07:00, 08:00 and 09:00 sailings from both Fishbourne and Portsmouth have all been pushed back 60 minutes.
The 10:00 from Fishbourne is expected to run on time at this stage, as is the 11:00 from Portsmouth.
This morning’s delays are in addition to a number of advised cancellations due to staff sickness. The 06:20 and 08:30 sailings from Portsmouth Harbour and the 07:25 and 10:30 sailings from Fishbourne have been cancelled altogether.
In addition, the 06:47 Fastcat sailing from Ryde Pier Head has been delayed. It is expected to run at 07:10.

Can anyone recall British Rail or Red Funnel using staff sickness as an excuse for not running a ferry to timetable in the previous century ?
At least the staff that ARE there in the picture seem to be keeping their hands warm while they wait for inspiration that may never come!
Obviously the ramp has frozen and the men are using the only mean available to -defreeze it, warm water !!!
That’s not water. There will now be an even longer delay while they deep clean and sanitise the deck before anyone’s allowed to drive over it!
Easier to let us know which ones are running/on time looking at that list of delays/cancellations
Periodic matenance and redundancy to ensure a good reliable service do not apply to the IOW ferry system, it seems a policy of “Wait till its broke” then fix it but regularly inconvenience the paying public, oh and if they are feeling a little poorly then just cancel everything Great service Not!!!
How sad you lot are. It was a breakdown it happens. Live with it. I want to say thank you to the fast cat crew who came in earlier to get the first fast cat out even with a small delay
Look at ryde pier cost millions to put right and all down to lack of maintainable over the last 20 years then they wonder why it breaks down or falls to bits
I’m thinking about doing a sweepstake. Each ticket would represent 1 day. The winning ticket(s) would be the day(s) where there were no cancellations or delays. Feel free to copy this idea for your workplace.
What about all those poor people that can’t get their work place because the ferry don’t run?
put me down for 25 December. No cancellations or breakdowns on that day.
Sorry Steve but I have checked the rules on my sweepstake and according to rule 16, subsection 3, paragraph B, bullet 9, Christmas Day would be classed as a cancellation.
Unless they got in some flying reindeer and ran a Santa Special (though of course that wouldn’t run till New Year due to a ‘technical issue’).
Or have I just gone off into the same realms of fantasy as our glorious leaders who tell us how good it’s going to be in the future?
And the council continue to ignore all these problems! It’s their fault this island is dying because they do nothing and think it’s good to keep the island in the 1800’s! There’s only 1 solution to the constant ferry problems solentfreedomtunnel.co.uk
