The driver of a red BMW is being sought in connection with a fail to stop incident in Ryde last night (Wednesday), in which 5 parked vehicles were damaged.
A Ford Transit Connect, a Peugeot 107 and a Vauxhall Zafira have been left in a terrible state after being hit by the vehicle on Quarry Road. A motorcycle was also knocked to the ground as a result of being shunted by the Transit. Police say a 5th vehicle was also hit.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 23:00 but the driver had already fled the scene. It is reported that the suspect BMW drove the wrong way up Well Street whilst fleeing.
1 fire appliance from Ryde was mobilised to the incident off St John’s Road in the interests of safety. Firefighters were able to clear debris from the carriageway and move the vehicles to allow the road to re-open.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has told Island Echo:
“We received a report shortly after 11pm last night (November 13) of a fail to stop collision on Quarry Road, Ryde.
“A red car was reported to have hit five parked vehicles and failed to stop at the scene.
“Enquiries are ongoing”.

A car full fo hate and rage
What a scumbag. I bet a previously band driver. I feel sorry for the people how now have to deal with loosing their transport.
Banned!
I think the word you are looking for is banned not band
And ‘losing’ is wrongly spelled. Also ‘how’ should be ‘who’. But he’s right – the perpetrator is an absolute scumbag!
its the cost of it all, at least one if not 3 cars written off as well as bike, the cost of police investigation, the cost of the fire crews attending,( did a cracking job) the onward costs for replacement vehicles, the road cleanup costs , not to mention loss of earning for those effected and all the other costs involved,
Can’t believe that this was stolen of my street !! But not sure how they stared it as the battery was dead …. jeez
Why do they need a battery to stare at it !!
Excuse me ??
Because if a car had no battery well how the can they drive it is what I mean ??
was that the BMW that was stolen
Yes was stolen of our street
Likely a druggy low life. Still perhaps the Police will tell him how dangerous it is to drive like that, and he will change his ways. Then again…
Needs more than a talking too
Which crime figures reference did you use to establish the demographic of joyriders/car thefts?
Or did you just make up the likely culprits from existing prejudice?
You tell ’em Jardine
just for correction, it was 3 cars that was hit and a further 2 vehicles where damaged as a result.
Phew, for a moment I thought the crime was really bad, best let him off a few days of his short sentence then fred, ‘as’ it was only three directly hit.
Isn’t predictive text wonderful!
just an update, the three cars and motobike have all been declared write offs, so this idiots driving is costing of 25k on insurance claims
