A 40-year-old man has been pronounced dead after being found in the water off Ventnor Esplanade this afternoon (Friday).
As previously reported by Island Echo, emergency services were mobilised to Esplanade after a male was spotted in the choppy waters near the Bandstand.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, including the Enhanced Care Paramedic and Operational Commander, were called to the scene to provide medical assistance to the male who had been lifted aboard a local fishing vessel. Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bembridge and Ventnor were also tasked.
CPR was conducted on the casualty, but despite best efforts, the male was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.
A spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has said:
“We were called at around 13:00 with concerns for the welfare of a man who had gotten into difficulties in the water off Ventnor Esplanade.
“Despite the efforts of emergency services, a man in his 40s was pronounced dead. His next of kin have been made aware.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the Coroner”

It has been an afternoon of sirens blasting along Newport Road in and out of Ventnor today so this explains why. Our heart goes out to the victim and his family and thank god there was someone around to rescue and recover him, not to mention spend time doing CPR. A tragic end to a sunny day in Ventnor.
Very sad news.
Not the weather to go in the sea though.
R.I.P
That is what living in ventnor will drive you to.
Why so many being pulled from the sea . I hear this more in the holiday season but never used to see this in the winter months?
