3 DETAINED AFTER AUDI CRASHES INTO BOLLARDS DURING POLICE PURSUIT

UPDATED: 3 young men have been detained by Police following a pursuit through the streets of Newport this afternoon (Sunday), which has been brought to a rather abrupt end.

The chase begun at around midday when a silver Audi A3 failed to stop for officers, leading to a cat-and-mouse situation in the area of Pan Estate.

There’s been no need for tactical maneuvers by the highly-trained Joint Armed Response/Roads Policing team though as the pursued Audi has crashed into solid metal bollards, bringing the vehicle to a dead stop.

It appears as though the driver of the vehicle was attempting to cut through a garage block off Royal Exchange to gain access to Manor Cresent when the crash occurred.

The 3 male occupants have been detained by Police on suspicion of a number of offences. They have escaped any serious injury.

The vehicle is expected to be recovered shortly. In the meantime, Police remain on scene.

UPDATE @ 19:03 – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that a 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, driving without insurance, driving without a licence, dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drugs.

He has since been released without charge but remains under investigation.

2 other men detained by Police were released.
