A 26ft yacht that had fouled its propeller and gone aground on the shore between Thorness and Newtown Creek was aided by the volunteers of Cowes RNLI last night (Sunday). The lifeboat, which launched at 20:22, discovered the yacht situated off Burntwood. By that time the lone yachtsman on board had dived into the water to free the prop. 2 lifeboat crew members went aboard to help take down the sails before the casualty vessel was escorted by the lifeboat to a mooring at Shalfleet in Newtown Creek. Coastguard Rescue Officers from The Needles met the lifeboat and yacht upon arrival. Cowes Lifeboat was stood down and return to the boathouse on The Parade at 23:00.
