Reports of a person waving a samurai sword in the air led to a large Police response – which included scores of Armed Police Officers – descending on Oakfield last night (Friday).
Police were called just after 20:00 to a report of a person carrying a samurai sword in School Street, Ryde. A glut of Police vehicles quickly converged on the residential address in Oakfield, with further armed officers – drafted in from the Mainland – picked up from Ryde Pier and rushed to the scene.
Island Echo understands the individual then refused to let officers into their home before eventually being detained at around 22:30.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that there were no reports of anyone being threatened or injured.
A 53-year-old female from Ryde has been arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. She remains in custody.
