A wife’s concern that her husband was overdue on his kayak led to the launching of Cowes RNLI lifeboat this afternoon (Tuesday). The man was planning to kayak from Lee on Solent to Calshot, but apparently was overdue at Calshot. As a result, HM Coastguard put out a message to all vessels in the area to keep a lookout for the missing craft. Eventually, reports of sightings came in and a launch located the kayaker off the Meon shore area of Hampshire. It was found that the man, who had left his mobile phone behind, was able to continue on his craft. Cowes RNLI Lifeboat arrived on the scene and proceeded to escort the male back to Hillhead. After launching at 16:22, the lifeboat returned to station 17:35.
