A yellow weather warning for heavy rain has been issued as forecasters predict torrential downpours are set to lash down on the Isle of Wight over the next 2 days.
IW Met Service says that bands of rain will develop and move up from the south tomorrow morning (Thursday) potentially stalling over southern England and lasting into Friday.
This has led to the warning being issued, which is in force from 09:00 tomorrow until 19:00 on Friday evening.
Rainfall totals will be highly variable from location to location due to the exact position of the rain band, especially as there will be localised torrential downpours embedded within the rain area. There are suggestions that between 40-60mm of rainfall is possible, with some forecast models suggesting as much as 80-100mm.
Islanders are being warned about the risk of localised flash flooding in the usual prone areas, as well as the potential of rivers breaching their banks leading to additional flooding in low-lying places such as river valley.
Polluted storm water may affect the Island’s beaches.
