A warrant has been issued for a West Wight pensioner who failed to turn up to court for the 3rd successive time. Peter Price, 88, of Cliff Road in Totland was due to appear at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court charged with cause cutting down/uprooting/wilful/destruction of a tree in a conservation area. The case is a non-Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) matter and so the charge is being brought by the Isle of Wight Council. Between the 26th January 2023 3rd February 2023, it is alleged that a large area of trees – measuring around 30m x 30m – were felled. The court heard how a number ‘old and very significant trees’ were chopped down. This latest no-show was the 3rd time that Price has failed to turn up to court and so District Judge David Robinson issued a warrant backed by bail. 2 other complainants in the case are next due before the courts next month.

Really?. We have riots on our streets, homeless, child abuse ,wars, death and starvation and yet our wonderful Council see it fit to spend thousands taking an 88yr to Court for felling his own trees. Whatever outcome of Court they can’t be replaced as was for another 100yrs.
So you are saying that nothing should be done about vandalism?
Vandalism? His trees his property. Who’s going to pay for the hundreds of thousands of trees destroyed by Putin ?. Not agreeing it was ok to cut down, but context and 88yrs old,if guy dies tomorrow what going to happen then ?.
So what if they were his trees. They were in a conservation area and, hence, illegal to fell.
In any case, pursuing and, hopefully, convicting him acts as a deterrent to prevent others selfish people doing the same.
No doubt Looking for a warm place to spend the winter now the sheriff of westminster is after pensioners money
Why was he given 3 chances?
Likely using age as the excuse.
Just because someone is elderly or disabled, doesn’t necessarily mean they are nice people or innocent or should be treated differently.
Selfish, greedy, uncaring, self serving and destructive action needs to be addressed if innocent wildlife is involved.
Are we really expected to believe that an 88 year old cut down 30m of trees alone?
The same as saying “ Are we expected to believe that Hitler killed countless people, personally “
Or Putin, etc, the ‘buck’ stops somewhere, and someone is responsible.
Him and 2 others. Read the article !!!
Any one know what has happened to the trees that were cut down as the wife and I
could do with some good logs for the fire to keep us warm this coming winter !!
If you find out, give me a shout we are running low
probably doesn’t care – what are they going to do to an 88 year old – lock him up, doubt it, fine him, then he doesn’t pay, then what ?
he knows that the hand wringing, woke do gooders that infest the judicial system will barely even be able to look him in the eye, rather than deprive him of all his wordly goods and consign him to being homeless and hungry for the remainder of his miserable life
With Labours Winter fuel cuts for the pensioners
the poor old guy will be better off inside
at least he won’t freeze to death this winter like many of the
elderly.
That’s Labour for you, the party who is against the elderly
So sad.
Awe, bless.
Maybe the will begin to understand what it’s like for their kids and grandkids having their allowance and benefits cut and more and more rigorously means tested.
Welcome to the real world, oldies. Maybe if you’d paid more attention in school and applied yourself to your career you wouldn’t be in the situation where you rely on benefits.
That’s what you say to young people, isn’t it?
Fairs fair.
problem with that poorly chosen statement bingo, is that a lot of pensioners are widows who did not work during their prime years as they were raising the family – you know, back in the 1950’s men worked and women, more often than not were housewives.
now these women are at home on their own, trying to survive in their twilight years on next to nothing – this latest plan by the state is a further kick in the teeth.
may i remind you, that the kids/gran kids have their youth and many years ahead of them to provide for theirselves, however, the current pensioners do not and society rarely wants to employ people in their 70’s and 80’s
think before posting
Most of these old people don’t need the WFA. Ifthey did they would qualify on the means test. They just want something for nothing.
What a moron ypu are .
And nasty with it
The worse possible combination.
The prosecution can make an application under the Proceeds of Crime Act and a charge can be placed on his property or other assets. If you let him get away with it because he is old you could start a geriatric crime wave!
and when a person lives in a rented flat and has virtually nothing – then what marcus – clearly you haven’t thought this through have you.
Be out with my chain saw now keir stalin has stolen my winter fuel payment.
Nice cladding on the new loos at compton……..:)
Goodie.
Hopefully we will see you in court where you will be named and shamed.
But you won’t be going anywhere with your chainsaw, will you?
All mouth and no trousers. As spineless as most of your kind.
Perhaps we could send him to a special clinic in Switzerland
Just plant new trees to replace ones that are gone, can’t change what is done but only what you can do now.
Just a thought…was he a property developer?
Awesome, go after the old people, don’t worry about the rapists and killers, in fact, let those guys out so we can jail some more people who wrote Facebook posts. RIP UK.
Hang on in there Peter two more months and you’ll be warm for the winter and free food!
It’s obvious why he had them cut them down, it was spoiling his view….being Cliff Road,
Poor tree.lock him up for life!
