Technical issues have forced the cancellation of sailings on Red Funnel’s vehicle ferry service this afternoon (Sunday). The 16:00 from Southampton and the 17:30 from East Cowes have been cancelled. These 2 cancellations follow the termination of the 13:00 from Southampton and the 14:30 from the East Cowes. It is understood that the issue with the aft engine of Red Eagle. If issues persist they could play havoc for those attempting to get home after the Isle of Wight Festival comes to a conclusion tonight. Red Funnel has apologised for the inconvenience. UPDATE @ 18:28 – The 19:00 from East Cowes has also been cancelled bringing the total number of cancelled sailings to 5.

Nice quiet day for red funnel so they take the opportunity to cancel as many sailings as they can.But bet you everything will run smoothly Monday and Tuesday.
Here we go again more excuses and the festival goers how are they going to get home red funnel ferry and wightlink ferry they are a joke to the island
If there is no ferry available,, again ,, keep the festival people in the grounds until such time they can be put on a ferry as otherwise there will be a grid lock situation again ,,,, and just remember island people especially have to get to work or carry out routine tasks .
Not to mention police ambulance and fire
Chaos, utter chaos once again. I’m an islander and a foot passenger waiting to come back to the island. They have no back up plan and not even prepared to put on extra redJet for foot passengers. Even now as I text they have cancelled the 7pm vehicle service from Southampton and there is no guarantee that the nxt one will go either. Simply put red funnel are not fit for purpose. Their could even be a riot when the festival goers find out they may not be getting home tonight or even tomorrow.
Couldn’t make it up especially when prices are at an absolute premium. Need to compensate customers and at least offer free goodvand drink. Pirates of the Solent!
