Isle of Wight footballer Scott Jones has signed for East Cowes Vics from AFC Portchester it has been announced this evening.
Scott has played for both the other Isle of Wight Wessex League sides: Newport and Cowes Sports as well as Brading Town. His previous clubs include Havant & Waterlooville and Chichester City.
The forward is famous for claiming to prefer surfing to football, as he did after scoring for Chichester City in the FA Cup.
East Cowes Vics have one of the tightest defences in Wessex Division 1 but are said to lack firepower up front following the loss of strikers Charlie Marsek and Jex Conway to Cowes and Ji Nash to Newport in the close season – hence the signing of Scott.
Jones will join former Portchester teammate Elliott Wheeler, who marshals the Vics defence.
East Cowes Vics have said:
“The former Havant & Waterlooville, Chichester City and AFC Portchester man has put pen to paper for the Vics.
“Scott is a proven goal scorer at levels as high as Conference South, bringing vast experience and quality to our exciting squad.”
Vics manager Alex Smith told Island Echo:
“I’m delighted to have Scott on board. He brings valuable experience to our young squad and will not only provide quality himself, but the current forwards will learn from him too.
“He’s one of the standout names in the division and we’re all excited to have him with us.”
