Isle of Wight archer Summer Chambers claimed double victory at the 2025 Hampshire Archery Association Outdoor Championships in Andover at the weekend, smashing county records along the way.
The 14-year-old opened the weekend by taking the top podium space with a score of 1223 – a result she believes may have broken 2 existing Hampshire records.
Summer then returned on Day 2 to post an even higher score of 1299 out of 1440 in the Metric III round, a total of 3 dozen at 50m, 40m, 30m and 20m, which could mark a third county record for the rising star.
The Hampshire Championships proved to be a true test of resilience, with archers contending with shifting weather ranging from bright sunshine to heavy downpours, strong winds and cold spells. Summer’s consistency throughout, especially in difficult weather conditions, has reinforced her standing as one of the region’s top young archers.
This winning weekend follows a strong showing at the Junior Archery Series Final in Coventry just 7 days earlier, where Summer secured 4th place overall. After qualifying well at Meriden Archery Club, she advanced through the early knockout rounds before narrowly missing out on a podium finish.
Speaking about her win in Hampshire, Summer has said:
“The weather was dreadful – sunshine one minute and pouring it down the next – but it was such a well-run event and the support was fantastic.
“Days like this remind me why I love this sport so much. It’s not just about the arrows or the scores, it’s about testing yourself, pushing through when conditions are tough, and walking away knowing you gave it your all.”

Chambers now sets her sights on the next challenge – a Hampshire team match against Sussex this coming Saturday, making it 3 weekends of sporting action on the trot for the youngster.
