Isle of Wight archer Summer Chambers has continued her impressive performance in the world of archery by securing a podium place at a competition hosted by Forest of Bere Archery Club in Horndean on Sunday (19th May).
The event saw Summer compete in a Bristol III round – a total of 144 arrows shot across distances of 50 yards, 40 yards and 30 yards.
She narrowly missed out on the top spot, taking a silver medal behind fellow GBR Academy teammate Rumaysa Chader, the reigning Junior All British U14 Recurve Field Archery Champion, who delivered an exceptional performance.
The competition took place under sunny skies with only light winds, creating ideal conditions for shooting. Summer described the day as ‘fantastic’ and has praised Forest of Bere Archery Club for their excellent organisation and hospitality.
At just 14 years old, Summer has already made a name for herself nationally and has earned herself a place on Archery GB’s National Age Group Academy – seen as a pathway to Olympic selection.
Earlier this month, she headed to Lillieshall – the home of Archery GB – for her latest training session with GBR coach Philippa Lowe, new National Team Advisor Ron Van Der Hoff and her fellow Academy teammates.
Summer is 1 of 41 Islanders to be named as a Red Funnel Island Ambassador this year, receiving travel support to attend competitions on the mainland.
