Isle of Wight youth archer Summer Chambers has climbed to 5th overall in the Junior Archery Series standings after another strong performance at Stage 2 of the national competition in Gloucester.
Representing West Wight Archery Club in the Recurve Under 18 Women category, Summer competed against 18 of the country’s top young archers at Deer Park Archers over the weekend.
The latest result follows her impressive performance at Stage 1 earlier this year, continuing a strong run of form on the national circuit.
Summer produced an excellent qualification score of 605/720 on Saturday morning, placing her 5th out of 19 competitors heading into the knockout rounds.
The 15-year-old then defeated Erin Hellewell of Thirsk Bowmen 6-0 in the opening head-to-head match to secure a place in the quarter-finals.
There, she faced Jasmine Harris of Wallingford Castle Archers in one of the closest contests of the competition. The match finished tied at 5-5 before being decided by a one-arrow shoot-off, with Harris narrowly progressing by an 8-7 margin.
Following 2 rounds of the Junior Archery Series, Summer now sits 5th overall in the national standings on 578 points. Saffron Knowles currently leads the standings on 820 points, ahead of Ava Snell and Jasmine Harris.
Summer has said she is incredibly pleased with her performance across the weekend and proud of the progress she is continuing to make.
Her qualification score of 605 also leaves the talented Isle of Wight archer just 4 points short of the current score required for Great Britain selection consideration.
